Cloves

Clove is a flower bud from the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum), picked by hand before flowering, then left to dry to produce the well-known spice, used both in cooking and in herbal medicine.

From a botanical point of view, the tree measures on average 12 to 15 m, is conical in shape, and has evergreen oval and leathery leaves. Its flowers have four pinkish-white petals, with characteristic persistent red sepals.

Before they bloom, the flower buds are harvested, then dried in the sun until they become hard, smaller, and take on that dark brown color and characteristic nail shape.

It has a strong flavor, characteristic of the spice, which means that it is used sparingly, rarely more than 3 or 4 nails per dish.
